What Is Involved In The Training In the Use Of The RD7000?

Locating pipes, cables, and markers underground is becoming increasingly complex. The operator’s job is more time consuming as the effects of ground distortion caused by different soil types and close proximity to other conductors take effect.

Any locator needs to be easy to use, highly accurate, and reliable, and the RD7000 meets these requirements. However, you can’t just take it out of the box and hit “go”. You need RD7000 training in its’ proper use in order to get the best out of it.

This equipment is ergonomically designed and is lightweight which enables the operator to use it for long periods without tiring. It is also energy efficient and very well balanced which makes it comfortable to hold. Notwithstanding its light weight, it has an IP54 rating which means that it can be used in any environment.

The locator and transmitter on the RD7000 have large LCD screens that are backlit and high contrast so can be read in any light conditions including bright sunlight. The user interface has icons which are easy to identify and consistent across the locator and transmitter range which makes for ease of operation. The RD7000 marker locators will detect all the most common utility markers and includes automatic estimation of the depth which makes for accurate and fast surveys. The combined mode permits searching for cables, pipes and markers at the same time.

Complete training in the use of the RD7000 is available.

HSG

Training is also available in how to comply with HSG47 and is aimed at people operating within National Grid substations and compounds. HSG47 training is valid for 3 years after which a refresher course must be taken which is valid for a further 3 years. It is required of Site Engineers, Principle Contractor Representatives, and Contractor Representatives. The training has specific delivery criteria relating to National Grid high voltage compounds, and must comply with all National Grid Safety Rules and the defined roles in National Safety Instruction 30.
